How is this different from deploying a smart contract?

A smart contract runs within an existing chain's rules. An appchain built with Cosmos SDK is its own blockchain with its own consensus, gas model, and governance — appropriate when a project needs that level of control, not by default.

Do we need to run our own validators?

That depends on the network's decentralization goals. We can help plan a validator set, whether that means your own infrastructure, a partner network, or a mix.

Is Cosmos SDK the right choice for every blockchain product?

No. It's justified when application-specific consensus or economics matter enough to outweigh the operational cost of running an independent chain. We discuss that trade-off honestly before recommending it.
